Being the newbie at Gotham PD was difficult. I had worked at Bludhaven PD for eleven months before moving to Gotham. Since I “didn't know what it took” to be an officer in Gotham yet, I got all the shitty jobs and shifts. Surveill at important political events, hand out speeding tickets, drug searches. Basically all the jobs where you got sweared at and berated by Gothams citizens. 

It was four months into the job when commissioner Gordon approached me. I was surprised as we had never really talked besides polite greetings and small talk. I also respected him as he was one of the few at the department who was “clean.” I had noticed the dismissals of certain crimes committed by certain powerful people. The way their heads turned the other way. The occasional stack of money or Drops an officer would quickly hide in their jacket. Bludhaven had them too, but Gotham had too many. 

I kept quiet but I didn't partake in it. Even though I had found an envelope in my mailbox after being a month on the job, promising a huge sum if I was up for a certain task. Besides the numbers of the promised money it contained a phone number. The only thing I did was burn the envelope and letter in my kitchen sink. I didn't want to be like that. 

The unique thing Gotham did have was a vigilante. I got to admit I was intrigued, but again I kept those ideas quiet at the station. As everyone there seemed to hate him. I was curious. Why would you start running around the streets trying to clean them? They would never be clean, for every one you put behind bars two more popped up following in their footsteps. Was he also just doing it to help those in need like I believed, or was it really only for vengeance? 

What I totally did not notice in my months at the GCPD was that Gordon was working with that vigilante. We were standing in an alleyway between two warehouses at night. I was dressed in my normal clothing with a gun in the inside of my jacket. I wasn't supposed to carry it when I was not on the job. But I wasn't taking any chances in this city as a female cop. 

First I just stared at him, he was staring back. Or rather observing me. Gordon explained to me that I needed to get on a case to get some information they both needed to gather evidence on another criminal that was climbing up the ranks by supposedly murdering his competition. I just nodded and agreed. I really wanted to help but a selfish part of me also wanted to know how the Batman worked. 

I did manage to get on the case. The evidence I overheard, I shared mostly with Gordon. To my disappointment. I had not spoken with Batman yet. Let alone hear his voice. But I continued to help. Until I got a call from Gorden from an unknown number telling me to meet the vigilante alone and share my new findings with him since he couldn't be there.
